Humanitarian funding analysis: Bangladesh floods

Attachments

  1. Key messages
  • Donors have committed/contributed US$20.7 million of humanitarian funding to Bangladesh so far in 2014 – a decline from previous years. None of this amount is in response to the current floods.

  • The European Commission's Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection Department (ECHO) is by far the largest humanitarian donor to Bangladesh (US$17 million so far in 2014). The UK Department for International Development (DFID) also provides significant funding (GBP £201.7 million in fiscal year 2014/15), but classifies its support as development rather than humanitarian.

  • There are no current appeals for the response to the flooding in Bangladesh.

  • News reports indicate that the Government of Bangladesh is responding to the emergency but that flood-affected districts have requested the urgent release of additional emergency funds.
