Overview of Hazard Incidences in September 2022
In September 2022, 18 hazards occurred across Bangladesh, including Boat-Capsize, Bridge Collapse, Dengue, Diarrhoea, Covid-19, Embankment Collapse, Fire, Flood, Heavy Rainfall, Heatwave, Lightning, Landslide, Riverbank Erosion, Sea High Tide, Waterlogging, Wall Collapse, Tornado, and Wild Animal Attack. Covid 19 affected a total of 13,251 people across the country in a single month. According to the national report published in September 2022, 40 people died and 8705 people were recovered. According to the NDRCC, a total of 443 Fire incidents occurred throughout the country, resulting in the deaths of 14 people and the injuries of 12 others. Lightening had a severe effect in September. 69 people died in 16 different events in 26 districts. Riverbank erosion has a big impact in this month. It took place in twelve different districts i.e., Shariatpur, Manikganj, Rajbari, Munsiganj, Kurigram, Sirajganj, Gopalganj, Sunamganj, Faridpur, Lalmonirhat, Rajbari, Patuakhali and Narail. People did not starve to death, but their homestead, cropland, many institutions were destroyed. In September, Waterlogging occurred in eight districts and many villages, roads and croplands have been submerged. It was reported that there were two Heat wave incidents this month on 2nd and 7th -8 th September in 12 districts i.e., Satkhira, Jessore, Faridpur, Sirajganj, Sylhet, Moulvibazar, Chuadanga, Kushtia, Bhola and the highest temperature was recorded at 36.2 degrees Celsius on the 8th of September in Comilla and Chandpur. Dengue fever has a noticeable impact on September as well. In September, 9900 confirmed cases were identified. The most devastating of which was 14 Boat Capsized occurred in 13 different districts, which caused died of 74 people, 11 were missing. Eight Embankment Colapse occurred in Habiganj, Natore, Satkhira, Patuakhali, Feni and Khulna districts. It causes flood, submerged many of fish enclosures. 35 villages, lowlands and croplands have been submerged due to Heavy Rainfall. Four Bridge Collapse took place in Moulavibzar, Jhalokathi, Habiganj and Manikganj districts. Sea High Tides affected 10 districts and people were suffering due to inundating areas. There were three incidents of Wild Animal Attack in three different districts Pauakhali, Brahamanbaria and Mymensingh, which caused 32 people injured and two farmers died. One Wall Collapse took place in Gazipur on 17th September. The number of Diarrhea patients were increased in Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions in the first week of this month. A landslide occurred on 5th September in Habiganj district.
Two Tornado occurred in Lauxmipur and Sunamganj districts on 9th and 24th September. About 28,000 people have been suffering due to Monsoon Flood in Lalmonirhat, Rangpur, Kurigram and Kushtia districts. One Landslide occured in Habiganj on 5th September 22, Where Vehicle communication was disrupted.
