Overview
Best practices refer to established methods, techniques or approaches that have consistently demonstrated sustainable results or outcomes in a particular field or industry. Best practices in quality of care, IPC and patient safety would be practices that are effective, consistent, applicable and aligned with standards and goals that improve quality of care (holistic approach), enhance patient outcomes, and ensure a safe and supportive health-care environment. They are integral to delivering patient-centred, evidence-based and safe health-care services.
Similarly, case studies are an in-depth, detailed examination of specific real-life events that are used for education and to analyse and understand complex issues to make informed decisions and draw guidance from these shared experiences. Typically, case studies involve the elements of the context, issue, solutions, results, and outcomes as well as lessons learnt and recommendations.
A compendium of best practices and case studies serves as a valuable resource to facilitate knowledgesharing by providing a consolidated repository of successful strategies. Through real-world cases, it offers practical examples for others to learn from and spread. Best practices within the compendium also provide benchmarks for evaluating and improving one’s own practices, with problem-solving through the highlights of challenges and implementation of the solutions. The aim is to promote continuous improvement and innovation by inspiring health-care practitioners, individuals, teams, and organizations to adapt a holistic approach to their specific contexts.
We hope this peer-reviewed collection of best practices and case studies on quality of care, IPC and patient safety plays a central role in disseminating knowledge, facilitating learning, and driving improvement particularly in Member States of the South-East Asia Region.
