Background: Bangladesh is currently experiencing scattered to widespread rain showers due to low-pressure systems in the Bay of Bengal, as reported by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) and the Flood Forecasting and Warning Center (FFWC). Monsoon conditions are fairly active across the country, particularly affecting the Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, where increasing water levels are heightening concerns about potential flooding in low-lying areas.

Key Figures

  • 366.6K Potential Inundation Exposed and Affected Population
  • 186.9K Female
  • 6 Districts

Forecast: The Flood Forecasting and Warning Center (FFWC) anticipates continued rainfall in the Mymensingh and Sylhet divisions, which may lead to localized flooding as rivers like the Kangsha, Someswari, and Old Brahmaputra rise. In Mymensingh, the Kangsa, Jinjiram, and Someswari rivers are increasing, with the Bhugai and Jinjiram rivers in Jamalpur flowing above danger levels, posing a flood risk in low-lying areas. While the flood situation in these areas may deteriorate slightly in the next 24 hours, water levels are expected to recede over the coming days, improving conditions.

In Sylhet, the Surma and Kushiara Rivers will rise but remain below danger levels, while the Jadukata River may cause temporary flooding in the low-lying areas of Sunamganj. In the Chittagong division, rivers such as the Muhuri and Feni are expected to see water levels decrease, and rivers in the Dhaka division will remain stable
