The Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS), with support from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and nine Red Cross and Red Crescent (RCRC) movement partners, has been delivering essential humanitarian assistance to these highly vulnerable camp communities as well as the affected local people under the Population Movement Operation (PMO) in Cox’s Bazar.

Approximately 1.2 million displaced individuals from Myanmar residing in 33 camps in Cox’s Bazar remain entirely reliant on humanitarian aid to fulfil their basic needs.

Additionally, 118,966 newly arrived individuals have already been registered in the camps and are currently staying with friends and relatives. This number is expected to increase and could reach up to 200,000 by the end of 2025.

During the reporting period, the smooth delivery of humanitarian services faced significant challenges due persistent heavy rainfall, which may cause landslides, soil erosion, and waterlogging within the camps.

Moreover, major funding cuts have made it harder for many organisations to provide essential services. As a result, most have reduced support for host communities, leading to rising tension and possible conflict between local people and those living in the camps.

Nevertheless, in May, the Population Movement Operation (PMO) managed to assist around 198,196 individuals—134,234 from the camps and 63,962 from host communities—through various sectoral interventions, such as shelter, healthcare, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), disaster risk reduction (DRR), livelihoods, protection, gender and inclusion, along with community engagement and accountability initiatives.
