Bangladesh: Rainfall and river situation summary as on 05 Jun 2005

RAINFALL

Light to moderately heavy rainfall at many places over the Brahmaputra, Meghna & South Eastern Hill basins and light to moderate fall at a few places over the Ganges basin has been recorded during last 24 hours ending at 9 A.M. today. Significant rainfall was recorded 63.0 mm at Sherpur, 27.6 mm at Narayanhat, 27.0 mm at Kanaighat, 25.0 mm at Habiganj and 23.2 mm at Mymensingh during the same period.

GENERAL RIVER CONDITION

The Brahmaputra-Jamuna observed further rise at downstream points. The Ganges-Padma also registered rise at all points. The rivers in the Meghna and the South Eastern Hill basins recorded rise & fall. Out of 86 monitoring points, 40 points observed rise, 23 points recorded fall and 1 point remained steady. The details of the basin report are as follows:

BRAHMAPUTRA BASIN

The Brahmaputra-Jamuna observed fall by 5 cm each at Noonkhawa & Chilmari while the river recorded rise by 1 cm at Bahadurabad, 10 cm at Serajganj and by 20 cm at Aricha. The Dharla registered fall by 8 cm at Kurigram. The Teesta recorded fall by 27 cm at Dalia and by 18 cm at Kaunia. The Old Brahmaputra registered further fall by 4 cm at Jamalpur and by 2 cm at Mymensingh. The Buriganga observed rise by 5 cm at Dhaka. The Lakhya registered rise by 4 cm at Narayanganj. All the rivers in this basin are flowing below their respective danger level.

GANGES BASIN

The Ganges-Padma observed rise by 3 cm at Pankha, 4 cm at Hardinge Bridge, 17 cm at Goalundo and by 8 cm at Bhagyakul. The Karatoa at Panchagarh observed fall by 3 cm. The Punarbhaba registered rise by 2 cm at Dinajpur. The Gorai at Gorai Rly Bridge observed rise by 3 cm. All the rivers in this basin are flowing below their respective danger level.

MEGHNA BASIN

The Surma recorded further fall by 29 cm at Kanaighat, 25 cm at Sylhet and by 7 cm at Sunamganj. The Kushiyara also registered further fall by 36 cm at Amalshid, 22 cm at Sheola and by 9 cm at Sherpur. The Manu marked rise by 55 cm at Chatlaghat, 43 cm at Manu Rly Bridge and by 12 cm at Moulvi Bazar. The Khowai registered rise by 55 cm at Ballah and by 42 cm at Habiganj. The Someswari recorded fall by 7 cm at Durgapur. The Meghna at Bhairab Bazar registered rise by 15 cm. The Gumti registered fall by 46 cm at Comilla and by 5 cm at Debiddar. All the rivers in this basin are flowing below their respective danger levels.

SOUTH EASTERN HILL BASIN

The Halda registered rise by 24 cm at Narayanhat and slight rise at Panchpukuria. The Sangu also registered rise by 5 cm at Bandarban and by 15 cm at Dohazari. The Matamuhuri recorded slight rise at Lama. All the rivers in this basin are flowing below their respective danger levels.
