The Education Cluster:

The concept of Education Cluster in Bangladesh was initiated immediately after super cyclone SIDR in 2007 to coordinate the sector emergency responses. In January 2012, the Education cluster received the endorsement from Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief to function as a sub-group of Local Consultative Group on Disaster and Emergency Response (LCG- DER). Establishment of the Education Cluster was to ensure a more coherent and effective response by mobilizing UN agencies, GoB line-ministries and agencies and I/NGOs. According to Standing Orders on Disaster (SOD)-2019, education cluster will (1) Undertake advocacy to continue education activities in disaster-affected educational institutions through alternative arrangements and provide necessary technical support; (2) Provide assistance to supply necessary educational materials.
