Current Situation: Maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar and Mongla have been advised to keep hoisted local cautionary signal number three (r) three. All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay have been advised to remain in shelter till morning tomorrow and then afterwards they may proceed with caution. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at places over Rajshahi, Dhaka, Khulna, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions during next 24 hrs. The Brahmaputra-Jamuna is flowing below danger level at all points. The Ganges-Padma is flowing above danger level at Goalundo and Bhagyakul. The Meghna at Bhairab Bazar continued falling. Small rivers surrounding Dhaka and Narayanganj observed fall. Flood situation around Dhaka city especially in the eastern part of Dhaka is likely to improve further.

FLOOD, RAINFALL AND RIVER SITUATION SUMMARY (as on AUGUST 14, 2007)

FLOOD OUTLOOK

The Brahmaputra-Jamuna is flowing below danger level at all points.

The Ganges-Padma is flowing 23 cm & 29 cm above danger level at Goalundo and Bhagyakul respectively. The river is likely to recede further at Goalundo and Bhagyakul in the next 24, 48 & 72 hrs.

The kaliganga at Taraghat and the Dhaleswari at Jagir are in falling trend and are likely to continue falling.

Flood situation in the districts of Manikganj, Munshiganj, Faridpur, Rajbari, Madaripur, Shariatpur, Gopalganj, Chandpur and Dohar & Nawabganj upazila of Dhaka is likely to continue improving further in the next 24, 48 & 72 hrs.

The Meghna at Bhairab Bazar continued falling. The flood situation in the districts of Narayanganj, Narshingdi, Brahmanbaria, Kishoreganj & Gazipur will continue to improve further in the next 24, 48 & 72 hrs with the water receding in the river Meghna.

Small rivers surrounding Dhaka and Narayanganj observed fall. The rivers are expected to fall in a lower rate for next 24, 48 & 72 hrs.

Flood situation around Dhaka city especially in the eastern part of Dhaka is likely to improve further and will continue improving in the next 24, 48 & 72 hrs.

The land depression lies over sub Himalayan West Bengal and adjoining area as well marked low (at 6AM today)and is likely to move in north-westerly direction and weaken gradually by giving precipitation (Bangladesh Meteorological Department forecast). Recession of flood water in the central and south-central districts may slightly be delayed by cautionary signal number 3 in the Bay of Bengal.
