Current Situation: Maritime Ports of Chittagong, Cox's Bazar and Mongla have been advised to lower signal. All fishing Boats and trawlers over North Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till 10am tomorrow (09-09-07). They are also advised not to venture into the deep sea. Monsoon is fairly active over Bangladesh and moderate to strong over elsewhere over North Bay. Monsoon remains vigorously active over the GMB (Ganges, Meghna Brahmaputra) basins both in and outside of the country and also over the south-eastern hill basin for consecutive days. FLOOD OUTLOOK
- Monsoon remains vigorously active over the GMB (Ganges, Meghna Brahmaputra) basins both in and outside of the country and also over the south-eastern hill basin for consecutive days.
- Indian meteorological department forecast: widespread rainfall with scattered heavy to very heavy falls is likely over Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Gangetic West Bengal & East Uttar Pradesh (Ganges basin), Assam & Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh (Brahmaputra basin) during next 3-4 days. Fairly widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls is also likely over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura (Meghna basin) during next 2-3 days.
- Bangladesh meteorological Department (BMD) also forecast for heavy to very heavy rainfall at places over the country during next 24hrs.
- High flood situation prevails in the districts of Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Sonitpur and Sivsagar in Indian state Assam and the flood water will automatically be drained by the Brahmaputra through Bangladesh.
- Northern districts like Kurigram. Lalmonirhat, Rangpur & Gaibandha are experiencing flash flood as the Sub-Himalayan West Bengal discharging huge runoff (generated from very heavy rainfall during last couple of days) through flashy rivers the Teesta, Dharla & Dudkumar.
- The prevailing flood situation in the district of Sylhet is likely to deteriorate further and will spread over the districts of Sunamganj, Habiganj, Moulvi bazar & Netrokona in the next 24-48 hrs.
- South-eastern districts Feni, Chittagonj, Rangamati, Bandarban and Cox's bazaar are experiencing flash flood and the situation may deteriorate in the next 24hrs.
- The mighty Brahmaputra-Jamuna is rising alarmingly and may cross danger level at Bahadurabad, Chilmari & Aricha by next 24hrs.The river is flowing 35 cm above danger level at Serajganj and the rising trend is likely to continue in the next 24-72 hrs.
- The Ganges-Padma is also in rising trend and flowing 25 cm & 18 cm above danger level at Goalundo and Bhagyakul respectively. The river is likely to rise further in the next 24-72 hrs.
- North, north-central and south-central parts of the country are in a threat of 2nd spell of flooding by next 48-72hrs.
