UNDP/DHA RESIDENT REPRESENTATIVE REPORTS:

1. WITHIN INTERVAL OF TWO WEEKS, ANOTHER CYCLONE STORM WAS FORMED IN BAY OF BENGAL AND CROSSED BANGLADESH COAST BETWEEN COX'S BAZAR AND CHITTAGONG DISTRICTS ON 25 NOVEMBER.

2. CYCLONE GRADUALLY WEAKENED AFTER HEAVY RAINFALL THROUGHOUT PREVIOUS NIGHT IN THE COASTAL BELT.

3. EASTERN COAST EXPERIENCED MODERATE STORM WITH MAXIMUM WIND SPEED OF 80 KMS PER HOUR. LOW LYING AREAS OF OFFSHORE ISLANDS HAVE BEEN INUNDATED BY STORM SURGE OF 3-4 FEET HIGHER THAN NORMAL ASTRONOMICAL TIDE. DHAKA HAS EXPERIENCED MODERATE RAIN PREVIOUS NIGHT BUT IS NOW GRADUALLY IMPROVING.

4. GOVT REPORTED THAT NECESSARY PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES WERE TAKEN, PARTICULARLY IN EVACUATION OF PEOPLE FROM OFFSHORE ISLANDS. MIN. OF DISASTER MANAGEMENT AND RELIEF IS REPORTED TO BE IN CONSTANT TOUCH WITH DISTRICT ADMINISTRATION IN ORDER TO ASSESS DAMAGE.

5. NO LOSS OF LIFE HAS BEEN REPORTED. NO APPEAL FOR INTERNATIONAL ASSISTANCE HAS BEEN RECEIVED.

6. UNDP/DHA RESIDENT REPRESENTATIVE IS CLOSELY MONITORING SITUATION.
