UNDP/DHA RESIDENT REPRESENTATIVE REPORTS:

1.THE CYCLONIC STORM ORIGINATING FROM THE BAY OF BENGAL MADE LANDFALL THROUGH THE ORISSA COAST OF INDIA LAST EVENING. THE LATEST REPORT FROM THE BANGLADESH METEOROLOGICAL DEPARTMENT REVEALS THAT IT IS GRADUALLY BECOMING WEAK AND MOVING TOWARDS NORTH-NORTHEASTERLY DIRECTION AS LAND DEPRESSION.

2.AS AN EFFECT OF THIS CYCLONIC STORM, THE SOUTH-SOUTHEASTERLY REGION OF BANGLADESH (COVERING THE DISTRICTS OF SATKHIRA, KHULNA, BAGERHAT, PEROJPUR, BARGUNA PATUAKHALI, BARISAL AND BHOLA) EXPERIENCED GUSTY/SQUALLY WIND WITH AN AVERAGE SPEED OF 60-80 KPH AND VERY HEAVY RAINFALL. RAINFALL IS EXPECTED TO CONTINUE FOR AT LEAST 12 HOURS AND MIGHT AFFECT STANDING CROPS.

3.DHAKA IS EXPERIENCING MODERATELY HEAVY RAIN SINCE LAST EVENING.

4.NO REPORT OF CASUALTIES HAS AS YET BEEN RECEIVED FROM THE DISTRICT ADMINISTRATIONS BY THE EMERGENCY CONTROL ROOM OF THE MINISTRY OF RELIEF AND DISASTER MANAGEMENT.

5.EMERGENCY PHASE IS OVER AND SITUATION IS QUICKLY GETTING BACK TO NORMAL.
