Child Protection Cluster

1. Accomplishment in 2022

Provision of support to vulnerable children and women during the 2022 flood responses. Key interventions included technical support to the National Child Protection Cluster Coordination Co-Led by UNICEF and MOWCA, providing psychosocial support to the affected children, developing awareness on violence against children, and popularizing the 1098 Child Help Line (CHL) , supporting rescue and recovery efforts by volunteers in flood and climate change affected locations.

  • Reached 289,072 (158,395 female) children and their caregivers, including 3271 Persons with Disabilities (PWD), with mental health and psychosocial support, and a total of 102,716,117 female) including 945 PWD accessed GBV risk mitigation, prevention, and response interventions.

  • Supported in the distribution of CP emergency supplies where, a total of 4,575 NFI (Family kits, Dignity kits, and recreational kits) kits were distributed in 2022. 12,826 females and 2,899 males were reached through the kits including 315 persons with disabilities.

  • Established 21 new community-based child protection committees and engaging over 150 community volunteers in the most flood and climate prone/affected Upazilla. This including reinforcing awareness on the identification of affected children, and their referral to social workers.

2. Plans for 2023

Prevention/mitigation

  • Support CP interagency monitoring of Child Protection risks in relation to hazardous risks in order to further inform program strategies.

  • Enhance the capacities of communities to care for their children and identify and encourage positive coping mechanisms.
    Preparedness

  • Work with National partners to ensure that the emergency preparedness plan of Child Protection is in place in all disaster-prone areas and area affected by climate change including appropriate referral services.

  • Establish safe spaces for women and children in disaster-prone areas as part of the community-based child protection network

Coordination

  • Organize a workshop/orientation on Child Protection and GBV in Emergencies

  • Strengthen Child Protection Emergency Supply Systems

  • Organize orientation for the Case Management working group

  • Develop awareness messaging and related social media campaigns

  • Child Protection Cluster Monitoring Performance validation workshop
