Azerbaijan: New settlements will seek replacing home for refugees

State oil fund of Azerbaijan will spend $70 million on building refugee settlements, said Ali Hasanov, head of the state commission on refugees and internally displaced people at a press conference yesterday February 10.
This decision has followed a presidential decree signed on February 4 for improving social conditions of displaced people in Karabakh war, who are living both in Barda and Agjabadi tent camps and railway trains.The new settlements will be built in Goranboy and Agjabadi regions of Azerbaijan. Goranboy settlement will host 3,674 families from Agdam region and 149 families from Kelbecer region. Agdam and Kelbecer were occupied by Armenians in early 90s.

Also 37 families from Lachin will be hosted by Agjabadi settlement.

There are seven refugee camps in Azerbaijan in present. The new decree seeks to reduce the number of the camps to three.
