"Floods have caused a loss evaluated as $30 million to Azerbaijan's agriculture, infrastructure and people," Abid Sharifov, Vice-Premier of Azerbaijan, Chairman of the State Commission for Extraordinary Situations told reporters. The embassies of the USA and Japan decided to help Azerbaijan to liquidate the consequences of the disaster. The government has also applied for help to the European Union, the UN and the World Bank.
Mr. Sharifov said the government had already started to pay compensations to 300 families, whose dwelling has been ruined. Compensations will be also paid to 300 or 400 families, who have suffered from the flood.
The Vice-Premier said up to 500 units if machinery worked on the Kura River to prevent floods. The machines strengthen the riverside dams and do other work there.
