Ending arbitrary and indefinite offshore detention: Nauru, PNG and deportations, April 2025

Attachments

The harm of offshore detention is well documented, with over 14 deaths, medical neglect, child abuse, and both physical and sexual assault. Despite this, Australia continues to operate a policy of offshore processing of people seeking asylum who arrive by sea without a visa. This policy has been widely condemned, repeatedly coming under criticism from the United Nations, national and international human rights organisations. Australia’s policy of offshore detention cannot continue.
