On 12 January, strong winds affected northern Argentina (in particular, the Buenos Aires province) causing storm surges that have resulted in casualties and damage.
As of 14 January, media reports one fatality and 35 injured people across the coastal area of the town of Santa Clara del Mar (eastern Buenos Aires province, approximately 330 km south-east of the capital city area) due to very high storm surges and large waves that occurred on 12 January in the afternoon (local time). In addition, the media also reports some evacuated people from the affected area and the nearby towns of Mar de Cobo and Mar del Plata.
Over the next 48 hours, no more severe weather is forecast over the Buenos Aires province.
