EVENT: Hurricane Jose
DATE OF OCCURRENCE: October 20 - 21 1999
As of 5:00pm this afternoon all watches and warnings have been lifted. However caution is to be observed as heavy rainfall and high seas are expected until Jose completely clears the area.
ISLANDS AFFECTED
Damage assessments reports suggest that the impact was greater on Antigua & Barbuda. Anguilla, British Virgin Islands, Dominica, St. Kitts/Nevis and Montserrat experienced tropical gale force winds and suffered minimal damage.
ANGUILLA
Final report
Damage assessment officials reported minimal or no damage in some areas. As a result at the meeting of the Emergency Operations Center Team, earlier today, Thursday, October 21, 1999, it was decided to close the EOC at midday.
Hotel Sector
No damage to the Hotel sector was reported.
Transportation Services
Airport will remain closed until tomorrow October 22, 1999.
The ferry service to St. Martin is still not in operation and there is no indication as yet as to when that service will resume.
Fishing Sector
No reports of damage
Buildings
Hospital - no damage
Senior Citizens Home - no damage
Response
No external assistance required
Anguilla Electricity Company is working to restore electricity which was switched off as a precautionary measure. Electricity was restored to Central Anguilla by this afternoon. All lines and areas are being checked and 90% of power should be restored by Friday, with full restoration by weekend weather permitting.
Shelters
All shelters were closed at 2.00pm today.

Telephones service was not disrupted
Public announcements
Public Servants are requested to check with offices to ensure full resumption of work by tomorrow
All schools will reopen tomorrow, Friday, October 22, 1999
Announcements were made on the radio requesting persons to stay at home to allow the crews to clear the roads and effect repairs to downed power lines.
ST. KITTS NEVIS
The Center of Hurricane Jose tracked about 18 miles to the North East of St. Kitts/Nevis. Rainfall recorded between 10.00am Wednesday 20, and 2.00pm Thursday 21, October 1999 was 10.96inches.

Response
Emergency services and work crews are working towards restoring the country to a state of normalcy
Preparations are underway to re-open the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport at 6.00am, Friday 22, October 1999.
Damage assessment is being undertaken
The National Disaster Executive Committee will meet tomorrow morning Friday October 22,1999 and there will also be a Meeting of the Cabinet tomorrow morning.
BRITISH VIRGIN ISLANDS
The following report was received at 3.32pm Thursday 21, 1999
Shelters
Eight shelters have been closed, while three remain open.
Twenty-five (25) persons were reported to have evacuated to six (6) Emergency shelters. Nineteen (19) have returned to their respective homes while six (6) persons are still remaining in the two shelters.
Utilities & Infrastructure
A small number of utility poles were down on the islands of Tortola, Virgin Gorda and Anegada
Electric power supply was turned off due to strong winds
Most of the major public roads are accessible except for a section on the south coast road on Tortola in Slaney, which remains inaccessible.
Transportation
The Director of Civil Aviation reported that the Beef Island Airport would remain closed until tomorrow.
Tourist Sector
No damage or loss of property was reported by hotel establishments
Some Hotels are without electricity
All guests are safe
Jost Van Dyke
No reported cases of damage or loss to property
Emergency shelter was opened but there was no need for evacuation
Lifeline systems were not affected, however the electric power supply has been turned off
The CDERA Coordinating Unit continues to monitor the impact reports and will provide a further SITREP on Friday October 22, 1999.
