Emergency Response

El Niño Response - Community-based Management of Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) Programme

• WFP continues to work closely with government institutions, United Nations (UN) agencies, nongovernmental organizations, and donors to coordinate the El Niño response.

• In August, WFP screened a total of 11,211 children under the age of five (CU5) in Huíla and Cunene provinces. During this period, 2,035 CU5 also received treatment for moderate acute malnutrition (MAM).
WFP distributed 8.5 metric tons of Ready-to-Use Supplementary Food (RUSF) to meet their nutritional requirements.

• In coordination with the Provincial and Municipal Health Departments and its Cooperating Partner (World Vision International), WFP carried out nutrition training for 125 community health workers (CHWs).
The training focused on screening, supplementation, early detection, and referral of MAM cases, as well as good infant and young child feeding practices, monitoring, stock management, and logistics. In addition, WFP completed the training of 30 CHWs who will be responsible for data collection at the field level.

• WFP developed a dashboard to allow for real-time data tracking and analysis, thereby improving the accuracy of nutrition-related data collection, enabling timely adjustments, and leading to more targeted interventions for improved nutritional outcomes.
