Highlights
- The Eastern and Southern Africa Region (ESAR) continued to experience overlapping and intensifying humanitarian crises. The escalation of conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo triggered new cross-border displacements to neighboring countries, while Angola faced one of its worst cholera outbreaks in recent years. Public health emergencies remain a defining challenge, with 12 of the 15 countries under the Regional HAC responding to active disease outbreaks, including cholera, measles, and polio.
- UNICEF reached 6.7 million people, including 3.6 million children, with life-saving, multisectoral assistance, while simultaneously strengthening preparedness and anticipatory action to mitigate the impact of emerging shocks. UNICEF continued to deliver child-focused humanitarian response, reinforce essential systems, and build lasting community resilience.
- In Southern Africa, early seasonal forecasts point to below-normal rains in several countries during the October–December period, raising concerns over drought recurrence.
