Highlights

  • In April, Benguela Province experienced the most significant surge, with 2,968 new cases (an increase of 813.2 per cent) and a rise in deaths from 19 to 91, bringing the provincial CFR to 2.7 per cent.
  • Children and adolescents continue to be heavily affected, with 8,152 cases reported among individuals aged 0–19 years (4,537 males and 3,615 females), and 219 deaths (131 boys and 88 girls) recorded across the 17 affected provinces. Transmission remains sustained, particularly in densely populated urban areas and locations with frequent public gatherings.
  • Males account for 54.6 per cent of reported cases and 63.4 per cent of deaths. Although the underlying causes have not yet been fully analysed, the initial field assessments suggest that gender norms may contribute to the disproportionate impact on males.
