Highlights

  • As of 11 March 2025, a total of 6,651 cholera cases have been reported in Angola, with 240 death (Case Fatality Rate of 3.6%). Out of the total cases 3,702 were male and 2,949 were female. Of the total number of deaths, 166 were male and 74 female. Overall, 13 out of 21 provinces have been affected. Luanda province has reported the highest caseload (3,477) followed by Bengo (2,203).
  • Controlling the spread of cholera is the biggest challenge, and it limits the impact of standard approaches, like Case-Area Targeted Intervention (CATI).
  • UNICEF observed a slight decrease in the number of children receiving their routine vaccination, as the health staff has been deployed to cholera response.
  • For improved Risk Communication and Community Engagement (RCCE), 30,000 posters containing messages regarding cholera prevention were disseminated.
  • The cholera outbreak response is led by the Ministry of Health with support from partners including key ministries and UN agencies like UNICEF and WHO.
