Highlights
- The cholera outbreak response is led by the Ministry of Health with support from partners including key ministries and UN agencies like UNICEF and WHO.
- As of 17 February, a total of 4,107 cholera cases have been reported in Angola, with 147 deaths (case fatality rate of 3.6%). Out of the total cases, 2,322 were male and 1,785 were female. Of the total number of deaths, 106 were male and 41 were female.
- As of now, 10 out of 21 provinces of the country have been affected. Luanda province reported the highest caseload (1,966), followed by Bengo province (1,586).
- Children are the most affected accounting for 50% of the total cases. The most affected are the age group 2-5 years old (15.3%) and 10-14 years old (12.6%).
- Oral cholera vaccination (OCV) campaigns have been rolled out in high-risk provinces: Icolo and Bengo, Luanda, and Bengo.
- Cholera response remains critically underfunded and incapable of reaching the provinces yet unaffected, to support preparedness.
