Luau - Technical, logistical, accommodation and human conditions have been put in place in eastern Moxico province to receive more than eight thousand ex-refugees returning from the neighbouring Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
The information was released by a source from the Ministry of Social Welfare in Moxico, stating that the operation is part of the organised and volunteer repatriation of Angolan refugees going until December this year.
The Ministry’s provincial director, Quinta Camiji Pinto, was speaking to Angop on Friday in the municipality of Luau, during the arrival of the first 439 returnees, corresponding to 190 families.
She explained that all accommodation centres in Moxico under the Ministry have been equipped to receive the returnees before they are distributed to their final destinations.
The process of volunteer repatriation that started on August 20 this year is being jointly run by the Angolan Government, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and the International Organisation of Migrations.
According to the final communique from the 7th Tripartite Meeting held from July 28-30 this year, in Luanda involving the governments of Angola and DRC and the UNHCR, a total of 29,659 people will be repatriated.
The returnees have as their final destination the provinces of Moxico (8.413), Uíge (7.667), Zaire (4.783), Lunda Sul (2.427), Bié (1.935), Malanje (788), Luanda (586), Bengo (397), Huíla (262), Benguela (236), Huambo (119), Cuanza Sul (103), Cuanza Norte (79), Cabinda (44), Namibe (04) and Cuando Cubango (02).
