Lunda Sul: Rain displaces over thousand people

Saurimo- At least 1, 544 people became homeless in the eastern province of Lunda Sul due to the rain that hit the region between January and February this year, said the report of Provincial Commission of Civil Protection.

In its note, the Civil Protection says that the rains affected the municipalities of Cacolo, Dala and Saurimo, and caused only minor injuries to some citizens.

The source added that the rains destroyed 367 homes. Of this number, 308 homes were totally destroyed and 59 flooded.

A bridge was also collapsed, as well as a school and a fountain destroyed, as result of the rain.

The victims are being assisted with zinc sheets and other means to rebuild their homes.
