Government adopts drought fight programme

Lubango - The Angolan government is outlining and implementing this year and 2014 a programme to respond to the drought affecting the families in the southern region of the country.

The assurance comes from the minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Afonso Pedro Canga.

The minister was speaking on Thursday to the press at the end of the visits he paid to the municipalities of Chibia and Gambos (southern Huila province).

The minister explained that the Government's response, foodstuffs aid and rehabilitation of water supply infrastructures for people and cattle, follows the drought situation recorded in Gambos district.

According to Afonso Pedro Canga, the three-day visit served to assess the programmes and projects of the sector and the progress in the water infrastructures for the local residents and work with the governor.

The minister assessed the functioning of the sector in the region and inaugurated water supply infrastructures for the people and cattle.
