Ondjiva - At least 490,108 square metres were cleared and cleaned from January to April this year, in Cunene province, by the members of the National Demining Institute (INAD) in the region, Angop learnt Monday from the head of the administrative services of the institution, Fernando Katiavala.
According to the official, the cleaning focused in the commune of Mongu, Ombadja district, in the land reserve of Xangongo and Xangongo/Onashalama route up to mark 12.
"Throughout this work there has been collected and destroyed six hand grenades, one anti-tank landmines, 38 mortar rounds of 60 to 82mm, two rockets and 2,772 ammunition of various calibres, "he said.
However, the source stressed that population will continue to cooperate with the demining brigades based in Ondjiva and other places are doing their jobs, to denounce the suspected areas of mines to be removed and allow better movement of people and goods.
