British NGO deactivates over 100 landmines in Bie Province in 2012

Kuito - About 125 landmines were deactivated last year, in the central Bie Province, by the British NGO “The Hallo Trust”.

The information was given Thursday to ANGOP by the head of operations of the mentioned NGO, Cristóvão Alfredo, when making an assessment of the activities carried out by the institution in 2012.

Among the deactivated devices, informed the source, it is included 112 anti-personal and 13 anti-tank mines.

Cristóvão Alfredo informed also that the NGO removed 582 non-detonated explosive devises, as well as 10.082 ammunitions.

The official revealed that throughout the year 2012 the NGO found nine mined fields, namely in the municipalities of Andulo, Kamacupa, Kuito and Katabola.

He added that the two of the fields are already getting cleared from landmines by the demining brigades of the The Hallo Trust.
