Angolans in conflict zones will continue
to need significant humanitarian assistance in the coming year, a UN relief
official said today.
Speaking to the IRIN news service, Marjolaine
Martin of the UN Humanitarian Assistance Coordination Unit said UN agencies
and non-governmental organizations had provided food and other relief aid
to some 550,000 Angolan in 1999.
According to the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, two million Angolans need relief aid and another three million people are entirely inaccessible because of fighting.
