Angolan citizens in Zambia and Congo lose refugee status in 2011

Luanda - The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Angola, Bohdam Nahajlo, said Tuesday in Luanda that Angola will no longer call, as from late 2011, its citizens residing in Congo, Zambia and other countries by refugees.

Bohdam Nahajlo stated so while speaking at a press conference, on the World Refugee's Day.

He stressed that there is no more reason those people continue being called refugees, as there are chances of many of them to return to the country.

He also said that the return of more people to the country is already being discussed at tripartite meetings gathering Zambia, Angola and UNHCR.

The Republic of Angola is one of the signatories of the 1951 Geneva Convention on Refugees status.
