Angola/Huíla: Rural Extension Programme covers over 100,000 families

Lubango, 09/23 - One hundred and 15 peasant families of south Huíla province will benefit, in November 2007, from the second phase of the "Rural Extension Programme" of the Agriculture and Rural Development Ministry, in the framework of the 2006/07 agricultural campaign.

According to the provincial director of Agriculture, Lutero Campos, agricultural inputs are already available, such as ploughs, hoes, cutlasses and seeds, amongst others.

Lutero Campos revealed that 500,080 hectares of land will be used in this process in the province's 14 districts.

An awareness campaign foreseeing to preserve the environment will also be held by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Fisheries and Environment, in this period, due to the attempt to extend farming fields, there has been an excessive cutting down of trees what greatly harms the ecological balance.
