Angola – Severe Weather (INAMET, WMO, Media) (ECHO Daily Flash of 28 February 2019)

Heavy rainfall has been affecting the northern Malanje province over the last days, causing flash floods that resulted in damage. As of 28 February at 8.00 UTC, according to media, 4 890 people have been displaced and at least 815 houses have been destroyed in nine municipalities of the Malanje province. The most affected municipalities are Malanje with 219 houses destroyed, Cangadala with 203, Mucari with 118, Cambundi-Catembo with 80 and Quirima with 56. Moreover, last week four people died in Luanda province. Hundreds of homes were destroyed. According to the Instituto Nacional de Meteorologia e Geofisica (INAMET), over the next 48 hours, moderate rain is forecast in the affected province.
