Kuito - At least 36,530 hectares of land were prepared and cultivated with various crops in the present agriculture season (2009/2010) in Kunhinga district, 30 kilometres to the north of Kuito, central Bié province.
The head of Agriculture Development Station (EDA) in the district, Júlio Chionga, informed that of the 36.000 hectare, 218 were prepared with the use of mechanised equipment, 5.700 with animal traction techniques and the rest were worked manually, aimed at increasing agricultural production and fight hunger.
Agriculture activities in Kunhinga district are secured by three co-operatives, 2,773 peasants, grouped in 41 associations and supported by the provincial government, the Angola and Spain Red Cross.
