Angola: Japanese govt to release USD 100.000 to build five fountains in Andulo

Kuito - The Japanese government will release USD 100.000 for the construction of five water fountains in Andulo District, in the central Bié Province.

The agreement was signed in Kuito City by the representatives of the Japanese Embassy in Angola, Ken Kondo, Czech NGO that is the partner for the implementation of this project, Jitka Skovrankova, the Andulo District administration, Maria Lucia Chicapa, in representation of the governor of Bié Province, Álvaro Manuel de Boavida Neto.

The fountains, which will be built in the localities of Chivaulo, Cassimbi, Kalussinga and Andulo, will benefit about 8.000 people.

Ken Kondo said that the construction of these five water fountains is a way that his country finds to help the Angolan government to improve the drinkable water supply to the population.

On his turn, Jitka Skovrankova said that in this project his organisation will contribute to the holding of trainings on environment, how to treat water and other actions, aimed for the wellbeing of the communities.

Maria Lúcia Chicapa highlighted the initiative of the Japanese government, saying that this measure will contribute to the reduction of diseases through the consumption of bad water.

The construction works of the referred fountains will start within two days and they are expected to end in December 2010.
