Heavy rains have been affecting western Angola since 16 March, causing floods and resulting in casualties and damage.
According to media, as of 22 March at 8.00 UTC, the death toll reached 19, of which 16 in Benguela Province and three in Luanda Province. Eight people were reported missing across Huíla Province. In addition, media reports destructions and damage: around 30 houses destroyed and 56 damaged across Benguela Province, around 103 houses damaged in Huíla Province and a number of houses and public buildings, including health centres and schools, damaged across Luanda Province.
Over the next 24 hours, moderate to locally heavy rain is forecast over Benguela, Zaire and Luanda Provinces, while the weather conditions are expected to improve over Huíla Province.
