Angola: Association against landmines destroys 500 explosive devices

Sumbe, 06/28 - The Association of Angolan Experts of Action against Landmines (Apacominas) Wednesday destroyed 500 explosive devices at Kipela locality, Sumbe district, in the coastal Kwanza Sul province.

The recently destroyed devices include Anti-personnel landmines, various ammunitions and other bellicose weapons.

According to Apacominas' source, the explosive devices were found in surrounding areas of the National Oil Institute (INP).

From November 2006 to June 2007 more than 1,000 explosive devices have already been detected.

The Association has been carrying out since last November, around INP, landmines clearance works in an area of 260,000 square metres.
