KUWAIT CITY (Dec. 27) XINHUA - Saudi Arabia on Monday sent the first batch of relief supplies to Algeria to help victims of a strong earthquake that shook northwest Algeria last week.
A planeload of materials, dispatched under the instruction of Saudi King Fahd Ibn Abdul-Aziz, included some 37 tons of food and 28.5 tons of tents.
A second batch of Saudi humanitarian aid will be flown to Algeria in the next few days, according to reports reaching here.
A tremor measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale also jolted towns in northwestern Algeria last Wednesday, leaving over 200 casualties and damaging hundreds of houses and properties.
