WESTERN REGION: THREAT
SITUATION. Immature groups and small swarms increased in Mauritania. Hopper groups fl edged into immature groups and small swarms in Western Sahara. Some mature groups were found near Tan-Tan in Morocco. A few isolated adults were present in Algeria and Niger. Mauritania treated 21 712 ha and Morocco 59 942 ha.
FORECAST. Breeding may resume for a third generation in Mauritania and Western Sahara. Adult groups and small swarms may increase in Western Sahara. Small swarms may migrate northward from Mauritania to Morocco. Some may reach Senegal and Algeria. Survey and control operations must be maintained at a high intensity.
CENTRAL REGION: CALM
SITUATION. Adults were observed along the Red Sea coasts of Egypt, Sudan and Saudi Arabia, as well as in Yemen, where a few hoppers were found.
FORECAST. Small-scale winter breeding may continue in Yemen and along both sides of the Red Sea in Saudi Arabia, Sudan, and Egypt, as well as in Eritrea and Somalia if additional rainfall occurs. No signifi cant developments are expected, except in Sudan where small groups could still appear.
EASTERN REGION:
CALM SITUATION. No locusts were detected in India and in spring breeding areas in Iran.
FORECAST. No signifi cant developments are anticipated.
