UEFA gives 3.6 million dollars to fight racism, pay for flood damage

Copenhagen (dpa) - UEFA's Executive Committee pledged 2.6 million Swiss francs (1.8 million dollars) in Copenhagen Friday to initiate anti-racism programmes and offered the same amount to help repair facilities damaged by the floods in Europe earlier this year.

Following numerous incidents of racist abuse of players during this season's UEFA Cup and Champions League competition, UEFA agreed to create a new fund to cover 50 per cent of the costs of anti-racism activities organised by member associations.

European football's governing body also agreed to provide the same financial support to those countries most affected by the floods in Europe earlier this year. This fund will help repair damaged facilities in Germany, Austria, Czech Republic, Albania, Spain, Russia and France.
