Albania - Wildfires, update (Civil Protection of Albania, JRC EFFIS, Copernicus EMSR) (ECHO Daily Flash of 11 July 2024)

  • The main wildfire that occurred in the Dropull and Finiqit municipalities, southern Albania on 8 July is under control but two more fires are under monitoring as reported by the Civil Protection of Albania. Albanian authorities report up to 3,000 ha affected so far by the Makor fire.
  • According to the Civil Protection of Albania, three firefighters and one soldier have been injured in the firefighting operations.
  • On 9 July, Albania activated the EU Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM), requesting aerial firefighting means. Greece deployed 2 light aircraft on the same day and 2 Canadair aircraft on 10 July.
  • The Copernicus Emergency Management Service (EMSR736 ) was activated on 10 July to provide a damage assessment and two maps have been produced so far.
  • Over the next 24 hours, according to the JRC EFFIS, the fire danger forecast is from high to very high across the affected area, due to adverse meteorological conditions.
