Kabul (dpa) - An Afghan woman was killed and four others including two children injured Sunday when their vehicle hit a mine in Afghanistan's southern province of Kandahar, police sources said.
"The woman was killed on the spot. Four others including two children and two women were injured,'' General Mohammed Salim of Kandahar police told Deutsche Presse-Agentur dpa.
The incident took place in the Arghandab district of Kandahar, the province regarded as the main stronghold of former Taliban spiritual leader Mullah Omar.
A spokesperson for militants loyal to the ousted Taliban regime claimed responsibility for the attack but said the vehicle belonged to the Afghan National Army (ANA).
Some 20,000 U.S-led troops remain deployed in Afghanistan hunting remnants of the Taliban regime and their allies from the al-Qaeda terror network, mainly in the south and southeastern region of the country.
