Highlights of Polio Fax Bulletin No. 1128 for Week 20_2020
I. Salient features
1. Polio eradication teams at the Regional and Country levels are contributing into COVID19 Response, particularly in areas of surveillance (field and laboratory), analytics and communications and coordination.
2. Wild Poliovirus Type-1 (WPV1):

No new cases reported this week, total cases in 2020 in the EMR to date 59 (Afghanistan – 12 and Pakistan - 47).

Ten new positive environmental samples, one from Afghanistan and nine from Pakistan.

Advance notification: One WPV1 case was advance notified from Pakistan, from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province, with date of onset in April 2020 – details will be included in next bulletin.
3. Circulating Vaccine Derived Poliovirus Type-2 (cVDPV2):

Six new cases reported this week, five from Afghanistan and one from Pakistan.
