WFP Afghanistan: Situation Report, April 2025

Attachments

Highlights

  • In anticipation of the expected drought in the north and northeast regions of Afghanistan in the upcoming months, WFP and partners are mobilizing to deliver cash and other assistance. These efforts will support food security, agriculture, livestock, water, sanitation, hygiene, nutrition, and protection, ensuring a coordinated and timely response under the Anticipatory Action framework.
  • Despite malnutrition rates being at an all-time high, WFP will be forced to (1) reduce its malnutrition treatment programme by 60 percent this year, leaving 1.2 million children and half a million women untreated; (2) suspend all malnutrition prevention programmes in peak periods of vulnerability.
  • To meet immediate increased needs for the returnee response, WFP has reallocated resources initially programmed for other activities, resulting in the postponement of the hotspot response by at least one month.
