Highlights

  • In 2026, an estimated 21.9 million people, representing nearly half of Afghanistan’s population, are in need of humanitarian assistance, including more than 11.6 million children.

  • UNICEF supported 52,934 households with pregnant and lactating women through the Mother Child Cash Transfer (MCCT) programme, reaching a total of 354,410 individuals in Samangan province.

  • To prevent malnutrition, UNICEF provided 179,955 caregivers of young children with counselling on maternal, infant and young child nutrition (MIYCN), while 159,338 pregnant women were provided with multiple micronutrient supplements (MMS) and 350,200 children under five received multiple micronutrients.

  • Around 87,700 people gained access to safe drinking water through construction and rehabilitation of durable water supply system provided by UNICEF.
