Turkey to construct and Rehabilitate 22 health facilities in Afghanistan

Dr S.M. Amin Fatemie Minister of Public Health met Mr. Najib Awzai Awztok chief of TIKA (Turkey International Corporation Agency) in Kabul. During this meeting Mr. Awztok pledged to donate $ 5 million for construction and rehabilitation of some health institutions in Afghanistan.

Chief of TIKA explained that in 2010 Turkey constructs one health facility plus three buildings for health workers' accommodation, one building for health institute at Behsood, Chak and Dai Mir Daad districts of Maidan Wardak province. Meanwhile Turkey expands Maidan Wardak Provincial Hospital as well. Moreover, TIKA builds 4 Midwifery health institutes in Kabul, Jawzjan, Faryab and Balkh provinces. In Jawzjan, TIKA rebuilds Jawzjan provincial hospital. Similarly, in Faryab it builds one midwifery health institute, one 30 bed hospital (Shireentagaab district), one polyclinic building ( city of Maimana).For Takhar province TIKA is going to build one Gynaeco-Obstetric hospital( Taloqan city), one 20 bed hospital( Khwaja ?i- Ghaar district) and 2 health facilities. Furthermore, in Balkh Province TIKA will build one health facility, one midwifery health institute (Mazar city), as well as one health facility (Keshendi district). In Sar i pul Province, TIKA will build one health facility at Sozma Qala district.

On the other hand TIKA has promised to dedicate 7 ambulances to MoPH and to provide training for a many Afghan health workers in various health sections.TIKA is committed to donate $ 4 million to address the technical challenges existing at Jamhoryat hospital in Kabul.

Also in this meeting the parties discussed on activation of new 350- bed Jamhoryat hospital as well as expansion of Ibn Sina hospital. Mr. Awztok pledged to send a technical team to Afghanistan so to address this problem in the near future. Mr. Awztok also promised to inaugurate and put for use Dar ?i- Suof hospital in Samangan province which was constructed by financial support of Turkey.
