Swedish Committee for Afghanistan rebuilds 7 schools and a clinic and digs 90 wells after Nahrin earthquake

The Swedish Committee for Afghanistan (SCA) is working on the recovery of its schools and its clinic in Nahrin district, in Baghlan province, in northern Afghanistan in a post-earthquake recovery project after the March earthquakes.
7 schools are underway to be rehabilitated, reconstructed and new/built, as well as one clinic that has to be reconstructed. Also 90 new wells will be dug in the district.

The work of rehabilitation started in June after a SCA team from its Rural Engineering Unit surveyed the damages to SCA buildings in the Nahrin district. Of the 11 SCA schools in Nahrin district 4 were completely destroyed during the earthquake.

The reconstruction work conducted by the SCA as well as the digging of wells will be finished by the end of October this year.

After the earthquake struck Nahrin, the SCA clinic in Nahrin center treated 360 injured during the first 24 hours and a total of some 1,300 victims throughout the first week. SCA health staff was on-call around the clock during the post-earthquake crises weeks.

The reconstruction and emergency response project is funded with 400,000 Euro by ECHO (European Commission - Humanitarian Aid Office)
