Ministry for Foreign Affairs - Press Release

  • Unofficial translation

The Government decided today to grant a total of SEK 69 million to the Swedish Afghanistan Committee for the period 2000-2001. The money will fund the Committee's activities designed to facilitate humanitarian assistance in Afghanistan.

The Swedish Afghanistan Committee is the single largest channel for the funding administered by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, Sida. The Committee's activities focus on health care, education and disaster preparedness.

Sweden has been a leading donor of humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan for many years. In 1999 Sweden's humanitarian assistance amounted to over SEK 100 million.
