Swedish Committee for Afghanistan funds small business project for people with disabilities through its civil society development funds in Jalalabad city, eastern Nangarhar province.
Small business project of flourmill business development funded by SCA Civil Society Unit (CSU) is implemented by Afghan Disables and Vulnerable Society (ADVS) targets 16 people with disabilities including 4 women. Through this project a small flourmill will be shared between two persons, in four flourmills one of two partners will be a woman.
CSU recently made a follow-up visit to ADVS. The project runs smoothly and according to the ADVS work plan.
ADVS is a Jalalabad based Afghan civil society organization which aims to provide assistance to people with disabilities in order to strengthen self-reliance in all parts of their lives. Beside this project, ADVS also carries out other activities, – as a school for girls up to 6th class and a handicraft workshop for girls and women.
Sayed Hussain Sadaqat, director of ADVS, said that currently most of people with disabilities and widows are not involved in any economic and social affairs because they are the excluded part of the community.
He said that most of illiterate poor women in Afghan society don’t have opportunity to work even if they are guardian of a family; they are always needy to others.
“By implementing this project they will be able to earn money for themselves and their families” he added.
During a meeting with Mr. Hussain Miss. Yasamin Shah, SCA civil society officer said that civil society unit of SCA believe that the people with disabilities will become self-reliant taking into account ADVS previous success in similar projects.
“SCA through CSU contributes to a very vital change in the society and SCA’s work with Afghan civil society organizations contributed to a change in the lives of a very deprived segment of Afghan society and CSU are for sure happy and proud to be supporting this project,” she added.
