BUCHAREST, Jun 9, 2005 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- The Romanian government will send 400 extra troops to boost NATO's peacekeeping force in Afghanistan during September's parliamentary elections, local media reported Thursday.
The mission will last three months starting from August 2005, according to the report.
Romania, a new NATO member, has already stationed about 550 peacekeeping troops in Afghanistan. Most of them are helping 18, 000-strong US troops hunt down militants from the ousted Taliban regime.
Besides the US troops, the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) has around 8,300 troops based in the capital Kabul, in the north and in the west.
