Summary

Since the beginning of 2007, across Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, Iran and the GCC countries, UNHCR has registered 56,695 non-Iraqi asylum seekers, the vast majority of whom have come from Afganistan, Sudan, Iran, and Somalia. All non-Iraqi persons are initially registered as asylum seekers before undergoing refugee status determination.
UNHCR has also registered 377,614 Iraqis, most of whom were registered as refugees on a prima facie basis, but there have also been Iraqi asylum seekers undergoing refugee status determination, resulting in a total of 434,309 refugee and asylum seeker registrations to date.
