March 16th, 2025 ― Doha, Qatar: In any country, the health sector plays a significant role both at times of peace and emergency. Its effective responsiveness is the decisive factor in whether or not people would be affected by the crisis.

Recognizing that, Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) gives top priority to building the capacity of the health sectors in poor and affected countries, by providing health facilities with the needed medications, medical equipment, and supplies, in order to enable them to keep providing treatment, surgical, and ambulance services, as well as ensure that patients receive the high-quality medical care they deserve.

QRCS’s Projects Guide 2025 features 73 projects to meet the health care needs of almost 699,000 beneficiaries, at a total cost of QR 84 million. These include 48 health projects worth over QR 68 million, to treat and serve 689,900 patients in Palestine (Gaza and the West Bank), Syria, Yemen, Niger, Sudan, Lebanon, Jordan, Afghanistan, Somalia, and Bangladesh.

Every year, QRCS carries out a series of specialized medical and surgical convoys, which involve the deployment of volunteering medical delegations to the most vulnerable countries to provide free-of-charge primary and secondary health care services for patients in a wide range of medical specializations.

They help improve the health and lives of patients and their families, build the capacity of local medical professionals, and support host hospitals with necessary medical equipment and supplies.

This year, QRCS plans to launch 25 medical convoys, as follows: Syria (1), Yemen (1), Jordan (1), Niger (2), Sudan (2), Lebanon (2), the West Bank (2), Bangladesh (2), Somalia (3), Mauritania (4), and Afghanistan (5).

The total budget for these medical convoys is approximately QR 16 million, and they will reach out to some 9,000 poor patients.

During 2024, 49 health care projects were implemented for the benefit of more than 1.5 million patients in 13 countries (Jordan, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Palestine, Sudan, South Sudan, Niger, Somalia, Yemen, Mauritania, and Chad), at a total cost of QR 60.7 million.

Also, 14 medical convoys were deployed to Sudan (5), Syria (3), Mauritania (2), the West Bank (2), Bangladesh (1), and Afghanistan (1). These medical convoys helped treat of 21,356 patients, with a budget of $1.6 million.
